Candida auris is an emerging fungus which CDC has indicated presents a potential global threat.  Candida auris was originally identified in Japan in 2009 and in the ensuing 8 years has been identified in multiple other countries, including the United States.  As of September, 2017, greater than 150 infections had been identified in the United States with most infections identified from isolating the organism from a blood culture.
